How Trucking Company Malfeasance Causes Accidents

Truck driving is a dangerous profession. If a freight company does not maintain specific safety procedures, they risk serious injury to other drivers.

There are strict regulations meant to keep you safe on the road. Unfortunately, 5,005 fatalities occurred in 2017, according to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration. Encouraging speeding

Truck drivers should know proper driving procedures. One of the most important rules they need to follow is the speed limit. If an employer of a trucking agency encourages speeding to increase their bottom line, they endanger your life and the lives of every motorist. Some large trucking companies incorporate speed regulators into their trucks to prevent their drivers from driving at excessive speeds, but many smaller companies are less diligent.

Fatigued driving

Regulations prevent truckers from driving more than 11 hours straight. Once again, company policy or culture might encourage drivers to push the limits of their fatigue. Tired driving is one of the most common contributors to accidents.

Overloaded trucks

Trucking companies that overload their freight containers are a danger as well. Overweight trucks might experience blown-out tires, tipping or flying debris.

Improper maintenance

Finally, trucking companies might not inspect their vehicles regularly. This is negligence, leading to brake failure or other dangerous malfunctions.

Freight carriers must keep the road safe for other drivers. If you or a loved one is a victim of a catastrophic truck accident, reach out to an attorney so they can begin investigating the company for corruption or negligence.
